Our Top 5 Tips For Winter Travel

2023 is in full swing and the planning has begun. Spring break, summer vacation, work travel and all of the little road trips in between are already filling the calendar. First up on our schedule is a trip to the snowy mountains! This calls for a little extra prep in our packing so we pulled together our top 5 tips for winter travel.
Multi-use Over Single Use
Baggage fees have seen a steady increase over the last year. To cut down on the number of bags you check or even get away with a carry on, think multi-use. Some of my favorite tips include one larger jacket with thinner layering pieces, one sturdy pair of shoes for the time off the mountain, and my go to black jeans for multiple days.
Destination Rentals
Rather than try to pack bulky winter gear like boots and skis, take advantage of rental places at your destination. If you are not an avid skier or snowboarder, you most likely don't have a preference on gear and don't need to travel with special equipment. This is also a great opportunity to look up new-to-you activities the rental place might offer like snowshoeing.
Stuff Empty Spaces
If you do choose to pack winter boots, take advantage of the empty space inside to stuff smaller items and toiletries. Roll outfits together and stuff in the sleeves of bulky items or wear those bulky items on the plane to leave room in your suitcase.
Hard Sided
Winter travel often means snowy and wet locations. Choose a hard sided suitcase to keep your items dry during the journey. Bonus: hard sided suitcases can often be customized to make luggage pickup easier!
Prepare For Delays
Snow and ice will with out a doubt delay your journey. Prepare for these delays with entertainment for kids and fully charged power banks for your electronics.
If you are taking a winter road trip, be sure to pack an emergency kit. A small shovel, warm blanket, basic first aid kit, and snacks and water will come in handy in the event of traffic or road closures.
